To survive on a desert island:

  1.  My collection of Penny Vincenzi books because they are all about 700 pages and I can read them over and over.
  2.  Pen and paper. Since my novels are usually set in exotic locations this would be quite enjoyable – I could gaze at the palm trees (hopefully there are palm trees) and the ocean and start writing my next book.
  3. A battery operated freezer. My favorite food is frozen yoghurt (cake batter especially) so I must have a freezer.
  4. Frozen yoghurt to put in the freezer. (Other favorite flavors include salted caramel and chocolate malt).
  5. Flipflops. Since I live in Southern California, I wear them every day anyway.

In my wardrobe:

  1.  Tod’s loafers. They are so comfortable and last forever.
  2. cotton t-shirts.
  3. Cashmere sweaters. I love the feel of cashmere against my skin and have worn the same cashmere sweaters for years.
  4. Lacoste tennis dresses. You can wear them almost anywhere and they never go out of style.
  5. A Burberry jacket. I do love Burberry – it’s so simple and classic.

In my purse at all times:

I am a minimalist in most things (and my days of carrying diapers and baby wipes and a complete change of baby clothes are long over) so my purse is pretty Spartan.

  1. sunglasses (a must when you live near the beach).
  2. lipgloss (I walk forty minutes a day and my lips get very dry)
  3. a paperback book to read (while waiting for my children to finish various activities).
  4. a pen and checkbook – I often scribble novel ideas on my checks because I know I won’t lose them.
  5.  my phone.

In my library:

  1. The complete works of Somerset Maugham – he’s my favorite writer and I learned so much from reading him.
  2. A huge selection of current women’s fiction: I love so many authors but at the moment I’m a big fan of Liane Moriarty and Jojo Moyes.
  3. Middlemarch by George Eliot.
  4. All the books by Edith Wharton and Henry James.
  5.  love 19th century French authors: so a little Balzac and Stendhal.

In my pantry:

  1.  Different kinds of salt, especially pink hawaiian sea salt.
  2. Peanut butter (It still makes the easiest after-school snack).
  3. Good Earth herbal tea (I love a cup right before bed).
  4. Gourmet Coffeemate. They have so many fun flavors: hazelnut, vanilla, caramel cream, it’s like having a different flavor of coffee every day.
  5. Instant oatmeal – perfect comfort food and reminds me of my college days, when that’s pretty much all we ate outside of the cafeteria.
